There was a special painted carpenter structure in the Europe, on the territories rich in forests: the painted coffered ceiling. The ceiling construction were made by carpenter who painted, decoreted the wood-construction with different motives. It was typical of the churche and the houses of wealthy family, too.
The pictures were in the square coffers, on the timbered, panelled ceiling. These paintings are ornamented partly with figures. The donator, his family and the members of his surroundings also appear on the figural coffers.
Some coffers contained the legend, the coloured ornamented text in connection with the owner and the date of establishment and so on.
You can also make painted coffers on a normal plastered ceiling by a wooden frame-system fixed the coffers on the ceiling. In this way the building technology of today can be connected with the ancient ornamental art. See the painted coffered ceiling about Veresegyhaz, the residence of Zoltán Joó, too.
